Corkscrew
Wood and metal
13.5 x 1.3 x 3 cm

This corkscrew is a design made for people who search for an experience when they want to enjoy a bottle of wine. The ergonomic shape allows the corkscrew to sit comfortably in the hand as it is turned to sink itself into the cork. Its sturdiness and flowing curves make it comfortable for the user to grip and pull, to get the cork out. Seabird is a tool that
embodies elegance and flow, adding to the aesthetic experience of the user as he’s about to enjoy a glass of wine, solo or with a meal.

To finish off the presentation, the corkscrew is comfortably nestled into its made-to-size wooden box, which allows it to be a part of the table decoration and not just another kitchen utensil meant to stay away from the eyes. The box also contains a drip-ring and a cork.

Seabird involved many steps in its process to arrive at the final stage. It had to go from sketching, to dough prototypes, to 3D print prototypes to test the ergonomy and shape, to the final routering from one single piece of wood.

This project targeted the learning of ergonomic tools, as well as the use of processes like 3D printing and the use of a CNC (router). It was a full trajectory, from the initial concept to a presentable finished product.
